Nikki and Helen's interactions unravel around Monica's appeal. Sean feels Helen's increasing irritability and disattachment. Well, Helen's carrying a chip on her shoulder that is as heavy as Nikki's heart. Helen receives Nikki's open university application in the mail. She's afraid to face her, and face herself indeed. Fenner notifies Nikki that Helen's expecting her in the office. A suprised and nervous Nikki rushes to her tormentor. Helen goes right into business about Nikki's university application hiding behind her authority. Nikki will not be crossed. When asked, "Why have you been avoiding me?", Helen replies, "You know "what" I'm avoiding." Hmmm. Instead of why. Nikki and we all would like to know "what". But here comes the same old speech from Helen about how she's only interested in Nikki's welfare as an inmate. As a frustrated and angry Nikki makes a move to the door, Helen once again stops and warns her, "If you keep this up one of us will have to leave Larkhall." Does she have no heart? Or is she trying to say, "You're going to make me fall in love with you". Little she realizes, she's already in too deep. As the door closes, Helen's drowning in thought between her conscience and her feelings.
Monica's ODing attempt is discovered by Nikki. The Julies and Nikki help her come back to life. Helen's locking up. Where is Fenner and the other guards? Helen took an interest in locking up maybe just to see Nikki once more before going home. Well, she figures out what happened with Monica and is quite upset about it. She shows up at Nikki's cell to question her. Good excuse..Nikki's back is turned on Helen smoking a cig. You dismissed me earlier, and now I'll dismiss you. Nikki's not to be had. Helen wants a "straight" answer from Nikki re: Monica. Nikki smirks to the "straight" comment. She has to spell it out, "I did it to protect you." Duh Helen! Ponder about it over night...
Helen gets home, what a day! She agrees to go out for a "cheap and cheerful" with Sean and friends. Yea, cheerful she is. She's just avoiding to be alone with Sean. Here comes the good part. Helen nonchalantly mentions to Sean that Nikki's in love with her. And totally lies about how "the kiss" happened. "She tried to drag me into her cell and kiss me." Vow she's in total denial. Sean's upset, but Helen assures him that it won't happen again. Yeah, OK.
Helen knows things are getting out of her control...The truth shall set her free!
