the best singers are the ones who can sing amazing arias without denoting any effort or looking tired or complicated. dessay has beautiful voice, magnifique tecnique and great interpretation, she is just close to perfection, she knows how to make music!

It is seldom that a talent like this comes along. 90% talent, th rest work and technique. Effortless and pleasing to the ear. Unlike some sopranos that strain.

I wonder why people in the audience look so glazed over and indifferent. I would be sitting there in awe if I had the pleasure of listening to Dessay in person.

When opera is taken into a tv show it's always a little weird how people react on it. Most of them don't really know the music. You see it in this clip too, when they start clapping while it's not over at all. Wonders me why no one is hissing to get them quiet again ;) And I do think some of the people are impressed how this can be done, best example I think is at 7:25 (the guy that is ;) )
A great piece of showing (off) her skills singing this kind of stuff. Great here.

A great voice. I'm not an expert on this, but I really think not many people are suitable to sing this magnific aria. It's amazing how she can sings such high notes at such a low volume (i.e. 0:55).
A charming voice.

The "low volume" you were referring to is termed "piano";
yes, some singers are just born-apt to those stratospheric notes, many of who, unfortunately, are no more than just the notes (Sack, Robin...-tho I have a much higher musical regard for Robin). This clip, however, is an excellent example of the pre-surgery Dessay: deep, sentimental, musically intelligent
ethereal. Also check out her interpretation in Hamlet; I can't say I would ever be able to feel for Ophelia if it weren't for Dessay

lol "low volume." Dessay is the best Soubrette- Coloratura that I've heard. Would love to hear this live, as some of her "higher volume" high notes (I could't resist) if pictured on a Sound Frequency Analyzer would be off the chart! Love this recording but prefer Callas' groundedness in lyrical and dramatic connection: in phrasing, emotional expression and Fach La Divina is the ultimate triple threat! Dessay pops a note in mid-air like a magician but Callas owns her notes from start to finish.

she is divine here, as also in her Ophelia. The post surgery voice has become husky and not such ease in the uppermost range.

It was a famous french popular TV show which played every sunday with different singers : pop, classic, rock, variety... We miss this kind of tv show which could open ears of people who didn't know every style of music... so bad.
