Whatever meaning ... ( 3 months ago by buddhabder)
Whatever meaning someone takes from a song is their own choice. Some people take the man in this song to be homosexual because of the 'Nature played this trick on me' line. But that line could just as well mean that the man is hetrosexual too, but is more interested in having the girl's company than having sex.

In the song Stretch Out And Wait, Morrissey writes the line 'How sex implores you to let yourself lose yourself'. Which, when associated with this song, implies that the man isn't interested in sex because he'd lose himself to it and he doesn't want that. And he's adamant that he won't let that happen, because it's in his nature. The trick his nature plays on him.

Years and years hearing this song, but i never had the "gay man" interpretation in my head,
I just heard this song and i could see myself, thats why i love it so much.
Yes, i would have loved to be like Elvis, but nature played this trick on me also.

I always associate the 'Nature played this trick on me' line which not being able to "get-it-up" so to speak. Haha
Like he's a very shy guy and anxiety prevents him from 'performing properly' etc etc...

I also like how Morrissey presents the unconventional image of an overbearing woman, putting sexual pressure on a man who is "delicate".
This actually happens more often in real life than the society cares to acknowledge.

Well exactly,,, I didn't mean to suggest that he's physically impotent.
Rather, he's socially impotent.
He can't be a Super-Cassanova because of his shy nature.
I'm not trying to slag Moz's hypothetical sexual prowess ;) Don't "Poor Comment" me people!
