Anything that deals with manipulating the body/tricking it is bad. I for one would get depressed, high blood pressure, and there was a time in which the doctor thought I was having a heart attack while checking my blood pressure,but I was feeling fine. Just that birth control involving hormones just wasn't for me. I am considering the IUD (the ParaGard version has little to no side effects at all due to not having hormones. The Mirena has a lot of the bad side effects due to usage of hormones).

Sorry, I should have said: (if you're predisposed to having acne). If you're not predisposed to having it, dairy most likely isn't going to do anything--however, Bekll, since you've always been eating dairy, how do you know it hasn't been worsening your skin problems?

Because 1 my sister doesn't have dairy often and she has had much worse acne than me, 2 I'm not allergic to milk (which greatly increases the chance of it actually having an affect on acne), 3 it's mainly genetic and 4 Dairy has an effect if the person's diet doesn't include food that helps combat it like fruit - which I do eat. It's not freakin' dairy for me! So people, stop telling me it is. I ate way more dairy in my early teens and my skin was quite good at the time. There's no correlation.

This is all true. More women should be educated about this. This was my prime reason for getting off the pill, but BC pill withdrawal is not fun. Libido does seem to be returning. (almost a year later)

I actually experienced an increased sex drive when I got on the pill. That could've happened because I started to relaxe more, as most of us dread pregnancy at 15... I think that it is important to be aware of the dangers, though. Some countries, like my own, tend to give out birth control pills without proper health checks.

Same here. I had terrible fights with my husband. When I went off BCP, the fights stopped. We haven't had a major fight in a long, long time. My periods took about a year to become sort of normal. Its been almost 2 yrs and my cycles range in length quite a bit, anywhere from 30-50 days long.

what about IUD's and sex life? Could you comment on its use? I was told that the hormones in an IUD only effects the cervix and surroundings. I wonder now if this is true. An IUD (Intrauterine Device) is a small object that is inserted through the cervix and placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

I am a midwife and most of the literature states that the IUD hormones "only work on the uterus and cervix". However if you think about it, those hormones have to get into your blood stream and flow through the whole body. The uterus and cervix are highly vascularized. Ignorance sells. IUD's cost about $500 plus office visit fees. We should all try natural family planning and stop being afraid of being real women with babies.

PS: exclusive breast feeding is a great way to space children. It really does delay ovulation. Not guranteed, but usually delays it as long as it's truly EXCLUSIVE breast feeding. Look into it before doing it.

I was diagnosis with surgically endometriosis and prescribed Yasmine (BC)as treatment. I was told take it for 6 months straigh skipping the inactive pills then have a period then do it again. I have been off of BC since Sept 07 (dont remember how long I was on it, less than 2 years though)and my period still stays off for 6 months but now it stays on for 10-20 days. My endometriosis is better now but I still wish I would have never started taking BC because I often feel like something is wrong
