I think I must be in the minority when I say that I like the film's ending more. I think it's a far more realistic ending then the book's implication that Alex will simply grow out of his violent ways once he grows up. Not that I don't find the implications of the book's final chapter interesting, but Kubrick's ending does make for a more satisfying narrative conclusion.

i disagree. the book masks the ultraviolence with words that do not specify exactly what is happening...the film adopts the technique of being 'artistically crazy' to attempt to achieve a similar result. i think it works beautifully but it is just an opinion.

Alex is quite possibly the most twisted, wicked and thoroughly evil character ever portrayed in a novel or feature film. Brilliant book and film. The scary part is, there are people like that in real life.

i agree, the last chapter is kinda rubbish. You have all that philsophy, social criticism and not to forget all the ultraviolence before and then the book ends with alex wanting to have a baby. just didn't work

what? it didnt end on that note. It ended with Alex starting to grow tired of his life of violence, while reflecting on the notion that his child will be more destructive if not more so, than him. - Seeing as he was considering joining society.

"Looks" terrible? You sound like you're forty years late getting to Kubrick's masterwork. This has been settled so long ago that I wonder where the heck you've been! A Clockwork Orange is not awaiting your sacred consumer's verdict. It's already in the pantheon. So go actually see it, and be educated. If you don't get it the first time, clear the novel from your mind and go see it again, this time as a film. Welcome to film history.
